What is a patent?

A patent is an exclusive right granted by a government to the holder of an exclusive right to exclude others from making, using, importing, and selling the patented innovation for a limited period of time. In the U.S. there are utility patents, design patents, plant patents, and provisional patent applications. We consult with you, conduct patentability searches, and advise you regarding the procedure, scope of protection, likelihood of success, and costs. We file patent applications in the U.S. and throughout the world to secure patent protection for your invention.

What is a trademark?

A trademark or service mark is a distinctive sign that identifies goods or services provided by an individual or company. Trademarks come into existance by use, but there are advantages to registration. We can advise you on proper trademark/service mark use and secure federal and state trademark registrations for you.

What is a copyright?

Copyright laws grant authors, artists and other creators protection for their literary and artistic creations, generally referred to as "works." There are advantages to registering a copyright in a published work or in unpublished works. A number of issues sometimes arise as to joint works, derivative works, and works-for-hire. We can assist you in registering your copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office.

What is a trade secret?

Broadly speaking, any confidential business information which provides an enterprise a competitive edge may be considered a trade secret. Trade secrets encompass manufacturing or industrial secrets, and commercial secrets.  We can help you protect your trade secret through drafting nondisclosure agreements and employment protocol.
